September 2–6, 2026 | Sagres, Portugal
The 2026 CMAS World Cup Spearfishing was held from September 2 to 6, 2026, in Sagres, Vila do Bispo, Portugal. As an official international event organized by the Confédération Mondiale des Activités Subaquatiques (CMAS) in cooperation with the Portuguese Federation of Underwater Activities (FPAS), the competition brought together spearfishing athletes and clubs from around the world.
For XTAR, supporting this event is an opportunity to connect with a community that shares a strong connection with the underwater world, and with the real-world environments where reliable underwater lighting matters.
Two Days of Competition Along the Sagres Coast
The competition featured three categories: Men, Women, Master 50+. Each team could include up to three athletes, while there was no maximum number of teams per country or national federation. Due to the limited availability of boats, participation was initially guaranteed for 30 teams. The Men’s and Women’s categories competed over two days, while the Master 50+ category competed on one day. Each competition day was scheduled for five hours, with teams operating within designated competition zones. A reserve zone was also available in case weather or sea conditions made the primary areas unsafe.
Each team was assigned an official boat and buoy, with a maximum of two athletes from a three-person team allowed in the water at the same time. The competition combined individual diving ability with teamwork, navigation, safety awareness and knowledge of the local underwater environment.
XTAR Supports the Competition
XTAR’s sponsorship with this event was made possible through an introduction from Fares Boughzala, the professional Tunisian spearfishing athlete, and also xtar brand ambassador, who helped connect XTAR with the event organizers. For the competition, xtar is so honored to provide selection of popular products, including: XTAR DH1 1600, D20 PRESS dive lights, and XTAR PB2SL V2 charger.

Lighting Where It Matters
Spearfishing takes place in constantly changing underwater conditions. Visibility, depth, weather, water movement and the surrounding terrain can all affect what divers see beneath the surface. This makes underwater lighting an important part of dives.
For XTAR, supporting a spearfishing competition is particularly relevant because many of the athletes, coaches and diving professionals involved are active users of dive lights. Rather than simply introducing products to a new audience, XTAR sees these events as an opportunity to better understand how experienced underwater users work, train and explore in real conditions.
Supporting the People Who Go Deeper
XTAR has always been closely connected with people who explore, work and create underwater.
From recreational divers and underwater photographers to professional underwater users and spearfishing athletes, these communities put their equipment to the test in environments where reliability matters.
By supporting the 2026 CMAS World Cup Spearfishing in Sagres, XTAR is proud to stand alongside athletes who share a passion for the ocean and the underwater world.
We look forward to continuing to support divers, and underwater enthusiasts around the world, and to being there wherever their next adventure takes them.
